Reflections on Women 2016-2017
Susana Rapallo is a Brazilian artist, born in Sao Paulo, Rapallo´s distinctive female shapes collide, bleed and fray into one another. Disrupting the flatness of the painting’s medium horizontal plane with layers of glazing and pouring powder pigments, sometimes in a subtle, delicate gestural, that mediates a balance between intuition and determination. Relationship between figuration and abstraction. Most of the time abstract areas arise, for instance, as backgrounds to Rapallo´s compositions
Sometimes constructing female feelings and emotions with colors and sometimes deconstructing into female body parts, oscillating between soft washes and heavy, concrete brushwork, Rapallo’s forms merge and shift, each layer communicating with those that came before and after, creating an interior network of conversation between distinctive levels.
Susana Rapallo lives and works in Madrid.
